Hi. Welcome and thank you for visiting MyMalaika.com.
Your question: So, what drives a successful Financial Professional to write fictional books, for children????
My answer: ...A PASSION TO GIVE BACK..I was born in Kenya but I have lived in the USA most of my life. This book project gives me a perfect opportunity to give back to both.
Your question: OK, I can reason with "a passion to give back". But, what would possess a Finance Professional to believe that they have the necessary skills to write fictional books for kids???
My answer: Should be, if Madonna qualifies why not me...The truth is, I may not be the most skilled writer and my most refined skills are in Finance but, I am creative enough and there is a need so, why not?
Your question: Yes, creativity counts, number skills...ehh...How do you think these diverse personality traits manifested themselves in you?
My answer: Researchers say that our individual personalities develop somewhere between the age of 2-6 (to me that is God given). Your personality explains your skills and your passion. True, my personality traits are broad and not all that ordinary, but then again, aren't we all unique. This is me, history and all:
(C) I have always been skilled with numbers and I enjoyed business therefore, I acquired a BBA and an MBA in Finance early in my career. An extensive career in Treasury and Accounting is therefore an outcome of my natural skills reinforced with great training. I have been a Director of Finance, a Treasury Manager and I have worked for reputable companies such as Home Depot, AT&T and Freddie Mac.
(D) I am also a doer. The Entrepreneurship class I took in graduate school may have had its repercussions but, all the same, I was always entrepreneurial. My first business was raising my own chickens for sale on my dad's farm in Africa. I did pretty good too, for an elementary school kid...For the MyMalaika book series, I just recognized a need, I had the basic resources needed to fulfill it so, I took action.
(I) Then, there is my creative side. I must credit my grandmother though for helping to spark my imagination. When I was a child, she narrated the most amazing African folk stories I have ever heard. As she told them, the images I conjured in my mind were vivid and almost real. I can also sing, play some musical instruments and, I have won poetry prizes ever since I was in elementary school.
(S) Finally, there is the calm but witty side of me. This is what makes me appear quiet yet, some get surprised that I am never afraid to express myself.
So, in conclusion, Math, Finance, Business Management and Computer Aptitude are my predominant skills. The value I can add to any organization. This book project feeds a passion and fills a need. The perfect opportunity to give back for...what I have and who I am...
